What I've been working on throughout 2025
After months of hard work, I can finally tell you about this
I am thrilled to announce that throughout this year I’ve been working on my third book, which is now available for pre-order! It’s called How to Go (and Stay) Vegan and is being published by Penguin Random House on the 18th of December. This means that if you pre-order it now, it will arrive in time for Christmas and Veganuary.
I am so excited that I now get to tell you all about it!
The book is not only about how to go vegan, but how to stay vegan as well. In recent years, I’ve started looking into and talking about what makes people go back on their veganism. It’s essential that we don’t just encourage more people to go vegan, but we also ensure that people who make the change stick at it too.
Put simply, I wanted this book to help ensure that veganism is a choice people stick with for life.
What is in the book?
As the title states, the book breaks down how to go vegan. However, in order to do so, I start by explaining why someone should go vegan, discussing the key issues around animal exploitation and the reasons why we need to shift away from it. I then explore the psychology of behaviour change, exploring why people slip up and how readers can overcome any social, cultural, or psychological barriers to ensure that they have the best chance of succeeding in their change to a vegan lifestyle.
The third chapter is all about food. I cover what you can eat as a vegan, how to be healthy, whether it’s ethical to eat leftover animal-based foods, what meals I like to make, and whether cell-cultured meat should be considered suitable for vegans. I also discuss eating out, travelling, and more, as well as debunk common misconceptions about plant-based diets.
However, going vegan isn’t just about changing your diet, which is why I also discuss clothing - breaking down why vegans don’t wear products that come from animals, as well as debunking common myths about leather, wool, vegan alternatives, and more. I also share my thoughts on what to do with old animal-based clothing and whether I think buying second-hand clothing that is made from animals is ethical.
On top of this, I discuss entertainment, zoos, toiletries, cosmetics and medication tested on animals, and the list goes on.
The book also goes beyond the lifestyle changes that are required in order to go vegan, delving into issues such as living with non-vegan partners, dating as a vegan, raising children vegan, and going vegan when the rest of your family doesn’t want to make the change with you. I also explore the issue of pets, including whether cats and/or dogs can or should be fed a plant-based diet.
The final chapter, How To Be Vegan In A Non-Vegan World, discusses the experience of being vegan - what the deeper more emotional challenges are, the absurdities it can reveal to you, and why it is personally fulfilling and enriching to form a deeper ethical connection with non-human animals. This chapter draws on my own experiences, offering reflections and insights I’ve gained throughout my time as a vegan.
This is why the book is also about how to stay vegan, as I don’t just want this book to be useful for people who want to know what to eat when they make the change - I want it to be a source of support and guidance for years to come. It is a book that can be referred back to throughout someone’s veganism, offering comfort, reassurance and validation, even if they’ve been vegan for a long time.
It was also very important to me that the book emphasises why veganism is an ethical position. At the very beginning, I establish the differences between a plant-based diet and veganism, praising the reader for whatever reason they are looking to make changes, while encouraging them to connect with the ethics of veganism in order to better succeed in the change, and so that they understand the merits of changing aspects of their lifestyle beyond just food.
Who is the book for?
This book is perfect for anyone who is interested in going vegan. Maybe you are a vegetarian, flexitarian, or meat eater who’s interested in making the change and is looking for a non-judgemental guide to help you do so - if that is the case, then this book is perfect for you.
Maybe you are already vegan, but you have non-vegans in your life who are wanting to go vegan or are perhaps considering doing Veganuary. This book is the perfect gift for them, especially with it being published in time for Christmas and Veganuary.
Or perhaps you’re a vegan and are interested in this book for yourself. There could be a number of reasons why: you might be a new vegan, still learning the ropes and looking for tips, help and guidance; or you might be a vegan who’s been having some doubts recently and has been considering going back on your veganism, and so you’re looking for help and reassurance to keep you on track.
Alternatively, you might be someone who’s been a vegan for a long time but has questions about second-hand clothes, what diet to feed cats and dogs, raising children as vegans, or something else. Maybe you’ve been struggling with social challenges, dating non-vegans, or finding it emotionally difficult to be vegan in a non-vegan world.
The inspiration behind much of this book came from questions that vegans have asked me over the years, meaning that, as well as addressing all the questions that people have when they are first making the change, the book also addresses the questions we often have as vegans.
At its core, this book is not just about making going vegan easier, it’s about making being vegan easier.
Thank you so much to all of you who do pre-order, as it really makes such a huge difference. Pre-orders determine how successful a book is when it is launched, how much promotion retailers put behind it, and the exposure it is given in stores. This means the pre-orders that you make now help get the book in front of more people.
I also want to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of you for your support over the years, including for my previous two books. The only reason I have been able to write this book is because of all of you who purchased the previous books and supported them, so thank you so much.
For me, this third book forms a kind of unofficial trilogy. I’ve now written three books that together will take someone through the whole process of learning about veganism, becoming vegan, and then being able to effectively communicate about it. I have other ideas for future books I’d like to write, but I’ve been thinking of this one as the bridge between the first two and the one that completes the trilogy, in a way.
So if the book sounds of interest to you, or you think it would be helpful for someone you know, you can pre-order it here.
Also, if you haven’t read my first two books yet, the first one is This is Vegan Propaganda (And Other Lies the Meat Industry Tells You) and the second one is How to Argue with a Meat Eater (And Win Every Time)
Thank you so much again for everything.

Congrats Ed! I hope your book helps more people become vegan and STAY vegan! Your book seems to cover all the issues and questions people might have so after reading your book there should be no more excuses. It's so much easier to be a vegan now than it was 20 years ago when I first became vegan. I wish I had all these resources and options back then but am very happy they exist now.
Congrats on the new book! I’m really looking forward to reading it. I’m a longtime vegan (16 years this past August!) and still going strong but do at times struggle with being the lone vegan in my own personal and family life.
